Who is providing the information?

Source

  • is the Institution’s or Organization’s name or its logo displayed?
  • does the author disclose his or her qualifications and credentials?
  • does the author disclose site sponsorship and the nature of the support?
  • is there a financial or an intellectual investment to a particular idea?

Context

  • is the information being provided to sell a product?

Currency

  • when was the document created or revised?
  • when was the document placed on the Internet?

Relevance & utility

  • does the content of the site match its purpose?
  • can the information be of use to the consumer (e.g., does information about the dangers of smoking also contain information on how to quit)?

Editorial control

  • does an online journal have a peer control process? Is the presence or absence of editorial control stated?
