Cable (Wave@Home) The "space" taken up by television signals traveling
through cable is extremely small, leaving a large "bandwidth" for Internet
traffic. A cable Internet account also frees up the use of your telephone line:
- hybrid fibre-optic/coaxial cable network - (LAN to your
home)
- speed: upload/download (500 kb/sec - 1.5 mb/sec)
- $40-$55/mo fee, (the higher fee usually includes cable
modem rental)
- includes ISP account and personal Web space (the cable
company becomes your ISP)
- requires Ethernet card ($50-$100), which may be
included in the rental fee
- requires basic cablevision service ($18/mo.)
- users must live in a Wave@Home-enabled area
- permanent connection, therefore, no time limit
